"Sheraton" Chair

Designed 1978-1984; made 1985
Designed by Robert Venturi (American, 1925–2018) Made by Knoll, East Greenville, Pennsylvania (1938–present)
Venturi translated the carved ornament of an eighteenth-century Sheraton chair into a two-dimensional, stenciled pattern, producing a gentle parody—a cartoon composition of elementary lines, shapes, and colors.
