Historiated Initial L with the Tree of Jesse. The Gospel of Matthew opens with a Tree of Jesse under which Jesse, one of Christ's ancestors, is asleep. A vine grows near his head. Within its tendrils are four half-length figures; Christ is the uppermost one with his hand raised in blessing.
