Book of Hours for Utrecht Use

The Netherlands, c. 1500

The Throne-of-Grace Trinity. This manuscript is a rare example of experimental book production in the decades following the invention of the printing press. The text is handwritten on paper, but the illumination is on vellum. The illuminated miniature on the left is surrounded by a printed metalcut border that was later hand-colored.
