Book of Hours for Rome Use
Belgium, Bruges, late 15th century
The Master of Edward IV, active 1470s to c. 1500

Annunciation. The angel Gabriel and the Virgin Mary are found within this wonderfully detailed interior. The unsuspecting Virgin reads from her book while a dove flies down from heaven behind her. The border is strewn with flowers, birds, insects, and butterflies.
