Book of Hours for Paris Use
France, Paris, early 16th century

The Death of the Virgin. In this miniature, the apostles cluster around the Virgin's bedside. Miraculously assembled from all over the world, the apostles witnessed the Virgin's Assumption to heaven three days after her death. Two doglike creatures play in the border, on either side of a coat of arms.
