Following several reference inquiries to the Massachusetts Historical Society regarding Jefferson's architectural work, Kimball was asked by the Society's librarian, Worthington C. Ford, to edit the recently acquired Thomas Jefferson Coolidge Jr. collection of Jefferson's architectural drawings. The privately printed volume "Thomas Jefferson, Architect" was published in 1916. The records consist of Kimball's correspondence with the Society, extensive notes on each drawing in the collection, and chapter drafts and outlines. Also included are galley proofs, a printed version of the book, and reviews.
