“Art is the one place we all turn to for solace”–Carrie Mae Weems

To celebrate a return to learning together inside the museum, VAST (Visual Arts as Sources for Teaching) will focus on place and space. How do artists express their place in the world and inspire us to reflect on our own? Discover, create, and share art and ideas for place-based learning in your classroom.

Schedule

  • Sessions at the Museum: 10:00 a.m.– 3:00 p.m. on July 14, 15, 18 and 19
  • Final Projects: Each participant will complete a final project, begun during sessions at the museum and completed on your own. Final projects will be presented virtually on July 22.


Cost

  • $200 ($175 Members)
  • Registration fee for non-members includes a one year membership to the museum
  • Teachers in public or charter schools in the School District of Philadelphia, email for free registration

What is VAST?

Pre-K–12 teachers, immerse yourselves in the museum’s collections and explore art as a classroom resource during this weeklong seminar.

Reinvigorate your creative spirit, connect with colleagues, and refresh your classroom teaching with new ideas. In this seminar, enjoy:

  • Creative warm-up activities
  • Presentations by museum staff and guest scholars
  • Gallery sessions with museum educators
  • Hands-on workshops
  • Field trips
