Man's Coat
Yohji Yamamoto is renowned for exploring new ways of dressing. He juxtaposes restrained simplicity with sensuous details, and uses his signature black with bright colors and bold imagery from diverse sources. Although Yamamoto's womenswear rejects traditional feminine glamour, one side of the lining of this black double-breasted men's overcoat features an alluring mermaid based on the iconic 1949 photograph of a young, yet-to-be-renamed Marilyn Monroe. Simply opening the otherwise austere coat is thus a transformative experience.
