Utagawa YoshikazuJapanese, active c. 1850-70
The text on this print says that Holland is located across the sea from Japan and that the people have white skin, red hair, high noses, and round eyes, and that they wear a great deal of clothing, much of it woven wool. Also noted are the Dutch practices of writing "only" horizontally and eating a wide range of fowl and meat. The people are described as intelligent and superior to the rest of the world in the field of surgery.
