Glass artist Judith Schaechter discusses her practice in terms of the Arts & Crafts movement in Philadelphia, her teaching career at The University of the Arts, and the tension between what is made by humans and what is made by AI. Schaechter’s work Our Dead Bodies, as a Philadelphia-based artist whose output is built on the legacy of the Arts & Crafts movement, is featured in the exhibition Workshop of the World.
The exhibition features 250 works of American furniture, ceramics, stained glass, metalwork, textiles, paintings, sculpture, and works on paper by Philadelphia-area artists, architects, manufacturers, and institutions. It explores makers who embraced the Arts and Crafts movement’s principles of handwork, simplicity in design, and truth to materials with the goal of transforming the things people lived with and how they were made.

- This is a hybrid program. You can register either for the in-person event or to watch it live via Zoom.
- There will be time for a Q&A at the end of the program.
