Artists on Art: Joy Harjo

Former U.S. Poet Laureate and celebrated member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Joy Harjo performs with her saxophone and band. Known for critically acclaimed volumes like Weaving Sundown in a Scarlet Light: Fifty Poems for Fifty Years (2022), Poet Warrior: A Memoir (2021), and numerous children’s books, Harjo has been recognized with some of the highest honors in literature and the arts. These achievements are matched by her work in music, as showcased in her many award-winning albums, including her newest, Insomnia and Seven Steps to Grace, produced by esperanza spalding and released through Smithsonian Folkways Recordings.

• Doors open at 6 p.m. with special access to the exhibition A Nation of Artists.
• The performance begins at 7 p.m.
• Seating is first come, first served.
• Drinks and light refreshments are available for purchase.
• This is a hybrid program. You can register either for the in-person event or register to watch it live via Zoom.
• Parking in the museum garage is included with your ticket.
