Celebrate Juneteenth at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Enjoy an evening of live music by the Philadelphia Heritage Chorale in a gallery setting that connects audiences to works illuminating cultural history. Engage in meaningful conversations about African American artists and artistic traditions through gallery talks led by scholars and explore the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection and the Richard Allen Museum at Mother Bethel AME Church at our community tabling.

Drinks and snacks are available for purchase. Pay what you wish for entry to the museum.

Performance: Philadelphia Heritage Chorale | Williams Forum | 5:30–6:00p.m. & 6:30–7:00 p.m.
The Philadelphia Heritage Chorale, founded by Dr. J. Donald Dumpson, is bridging music of the African Diaspora with classical music with the commitment to music born of the African Diaspora or created by composers of African descent. The ensemble's mission is to facilitate access for appreciation, participation, and celebration of the arts in Philadelphia and beyond.

Gallery Talks: Black Figures and Artists in the Collection | Meeting in the Great Stair Hall | 6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m.
Explore works that focus on Black figures and portraits, as well as Black artists, in our permanent collection with Dr. Li Sumpter and Noah Kane-Smalls.

Dr. Li Sumpter is an independent scholar and multidisciplinary artist who applies strategies of worldbuilding and mythic design toward building better, more resilient communities of the future.

Noah Kane-Smalls is a curator, cultural worker, and creative leader based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, known for his work at the intersection of the arts, community engagement, and equity initiatives.

Things to Know:

  • Seating is first come, first served for the Philadelphia Heritage Chorale performances.
  • Tours have a 20-person capacity and are on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Tours will be 1 hour long and meet at the Information Desk in the Great Stair Hall.
