About

The department of Twentieth Century Art is pleased to announce its latest acquisition of contemporary art, Strange Fruit (for David), 1992โ€“1997, created by New York-based artist Zoe Leonard. Hauntingly beautiful in its simplicity, this work was begun in 1992 as a process of mourning for the loss of a friend and developed into a five-year-long project. Strange Fruit (for David) is composed of over 300 banana, orange, grapefruit, lemon, and avocado peels with thread, zippers, buttons, sinew, needles, plastic, wire, stickers, fabric trim, and wax.
