Cast 1917

Hand of Rodin Holding a Torso

Auguste Rodin

French, 1840 - 1917

Image 1 of 21 / 2

In the weeks leading up to Rodin’s death in November 1917, his assistant Paul Cruet made a cast of the artist’s right hand and inserted Small Torso A, one of many plaster fragments crowding Rodin’s studio. This composite work combines a cast made from life with an original work of art.
