The Mother
John Callcott HorsleyEnglish, 1817 - 1903
The youngest member of the Etching Club, Horsley launched his career as a portrait painter but became known for his scenes taken from everyday life. Submitted at the club's second meeting, in March 1838, a year before he exhibited his first painting at the Royal Academy, London, this etching of a mother with her child exudes the comfort of a simple home life.
