The Offer of Love

Albrecht Dürer

German, 1471 - 1528

One of Dürer's earliest prints (and only the second to include his monogram), this engraving portrays a couple who have ridden out of town for an amorous tryst in a peaceful meadow. As the lustful old man embraces the woman, she reaches to fill her purse with coins from his hand.
