Woman's Dress (Robe à l’anglaise)

Artist/maker unknown

This dress is ascribed to the trousseau of Rachel Bolitho (1765-?). Rachel was the daughter of Captain John Bolitho, a shipmaster who had come to America from Cornwall, England, in about 1741. This silk was likely woven by the London Spitalfields firm Batchelor, Ham and Perigal in about 1772-73.
