"Grasshopper" Chair
Image 1 of 31 / 3
The "Grasshopper" chair was the first chair designed by Saarinen for Knoll. Its one-piece arm and leg were made from bentwood-wood that is steamed or boiled and then bent into shape rather than being cut. This design is more closely related to the pre-war works of European artists like Alvar Aalto and Marcel Breuer than to those of Saarinen's American contemporaries.
