"Mira" Chair

George Nakashima’s “Mira” chair realizes his belief that furniture need not be overly precious but lived with as a member of the family, embodying imperfection and carrying the wears of everyday interaction. He designed the “Mira” model in the late 1940s as an elevated seat so that his baby daughter, Mira, could sit at the table. Eventually he added a foot support and transformed the chair into a convenient potter’s stool.
