Man's Jacket

Issey Miyake doesn't so much design garments as inquire into the very nature of clothing. His acclaimed insight and continual exploration of the technology of cloth combine in this jacket, in which he examines both the structure and concept of traditional masculine tailoring. The sheer polyester fabric exposes the usually invisible construction features that are the foundation of the art of tailoring—hair canvas, shoulder pads, and pad stitching—to make an ingenious and revealing modernist statement.
