The Virgin and Child

Raffaellino da Reggio (Raffaello Motta)

Italian, 1550 - 1578

Raffaellino died at the early age of twenty-eight, but in his short career he executed a few church decorations in Rome and even received a papal commission for frescoes in the Vatican. This drawing was once attributed to his more prominent master Federico Zuccaro, as seen recorded in an inscription on the sheet's original mount that was written by its owner in the mid-nineteenth century, the Philadelphia portrait painter John Neagle.
