Marie de Médicis and Henri IV Adoring the Cross
Cigoli (Lodovico Cardi)Italian (active Florence) 1559 - 1613
Cigoli's nickname derives from the small Tuscan village in which he was born, but he worked in the urban centers of Florence and Rome, often for the Medici, becoming an important figure in the transition from late Mannerism to the early Baroque. The two figures in the drawing are most likely Henri IV, the first Bourbon king of France, and the Florentine Maria de' Medici, whom he married in 1600.
