Vessel with Lid
Kim YikyungKorean, born 1935
Kim Yikyung is among the foremost contemporary Korean potters. Her inspiration is deeply rooted in the tradition of Joseon white porcelains. In particular, Kim favors the ascetic forms of ritual vessels with their spare, undecorated surfaces and strong shapes. Most of her works are white glaze, but for this piece she used the more difficult black glaze.
