Gilotin

The character Gilotin is a variant of Pierrot, a clown in the commedia dell’arte, a popular form of comedy in sixteenth- through eighteenth-century Italy. This type of comedy influenced theater throughout Europe. The inscription reads Wie zijt gij (Who art thou?).
