Splotch

In the mid-1960s, Sol LeWitt emerged as a leading figure in the international Conceptual art movement. Known initially for his geometric sculptures, he began devising wall drawings in 1968, for which the owner of each piece received only a set of instructions for making it. Created at the end of LeWitt's career, Splotch demonstrates a newfound exuberance of color and shape that also relies on a pre-determined set of criteria established by the artist. It was produced with the aid of computer technology, which allowed LeWitt to map the patterns that shape its undulating forms.
