Neither More nor Less (Ni más ni menos)

Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes

Spanish, 1746 - 1828

Within Los Caprichos Goya created a suite of six prints depicting humans as donkeys, a common satirical device at the time that critiqued foolishness or ignorance in society. In Neither More nor Less Goya again presents a nobleman in the guise of a donkey, this time attempting to flaunt his cultural refinement. The painter of the portrait is depicted as a monkey, a copyist mimicking the work of genuine artists.
