Utagawa Hiroshige was one of Japan’s most talented nineteenth-century landscape artists. This woodcut is part of a series of views of Mount Fuji in which the revered mountain is seen in the distance, often glimpsed through trees, reeds, or raindrops that occupy the immediate foreground.
