FĂȘte galante

Pierre-Antoine Quillard

French, c. 1704 - 1733

A fĂȘte galante---an outdoor party involving richly dressed men and women enjoying music, boating, and picnicking---was a popular subject in eighteenth-century French painting. A pupil of Antoine Watteau, who also painted such scenes, Quillard moved to Portugal in 1726 to work for the court of King John V.
