William Henry Johnson

American, 1901 - 1970

Soon after Johnson's arrival in Norway, he met the reclusive Edvard Munch (1863-1944), that country's most famous living painter and one of the most creative woodcut artists of his time. Munch's distinctive rough-hewn block prints may have inspired Johnson to take up the method again with renewed enthusiasm.
