This plate is part of a service that the Dutch stadtholder (viceroy or lieutenant governor) William V received as a gift from the Dutch East India Company, a chartered company founded in 1602 to oversee Dutch trade with East Asia. The service was decorated with landscapes and cityscapes of the Netherlands and the Dutch East Indies. This plate shows the town of Enkhuizen, Netherlands.
