Woodblock is the medium that the artist Kim Sang Ku has employed for the past thirty years, following the long and distinguished tradition of Korean woodblock printing. For the surface on which his woodblock carvings appear, Kim uses only Korean mulberry paper made in the traditional method. This print is from his "Series of 1998," which is composed of eight iconic images of Korean Buddhist sites. No. 669 shows a stone pagoda constructed in the early seventh century at the Punhwang-sa Temple (designated as a National Treasure by the Korean government), also in Kyòngju.
