Untitled

Charles Long

American, born 1958

Nearly ten feet tall, this sculpture proves both physically imposing and delicately airy. Inspired by the white buildup of bird excrement seen by the artist near his home on the banks of the Los Angeles River, it consists of a combination of found objects and bits of debris. The result is a ghostlike, semi-humanoid form perched on a supporting metal frame. With its biomorphic presence, Untitled references the willowy Standing Figure (1957–58) by the sculptor Alberto Giacometti.
