Sectional Box (Jūbako)
Suzuki GorÅJapanese, born 1941
The artist has used the traditional Japanese stacking lunch box as the canvas for his intricate designs of clouds, birds, grasses, and geometric motifs. Suzukiās ebullient whimsy is also evident in his "signature" at the bottom of the box, which is a self-portrait as Atlas carrying a huge ceramic pot.
