The art world of Philadelphia dominated Myra Mimlitsch-Gray's education. She began her studies at the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts), studying under Richard Hoffman Reinhardt, Rod McCormick, and Sharon Church. After earning her BFA there she moved on to her graduate studies at Cranbrook Academy of Art under Gary Griffin, who had been a student of Stanley Lechtzin's at Tyler School of Art. Mimlitsch-Gray is well known for her jewelry and hollowware which reflects her keen sense of the past, present and future of the field of metalwork. She has also been a dedicated educator, teaching jewelry and metalworker, since 1993 at the State University of New York at New Paltz.
