The Wonder

John E. Dowell, Jr.

American, born 1941

Through his paintings, prints, sculptures, and music, Dowell seeks to heighten the viewer’s sense of humanity. Images from nature, as seen in this print, are imbued with a sense of spirituality and symbolism intended to trigger moments of reflection and personal memories. The artist has made prints and supported programs at the Brandywine Workshop over many years, and he played an instrumental role, working with Allan Edmunds, in the workshop’s transition from screenprinting to offset lithography.
