Woman's Evening Ensemble: Dress and Wrap

Chiffon, gathered to outline the bust of this strapless gown, falls from a high waist into a fluid, layered skirt with both sunburst and diagonal pleating. A large, sheer rectangular shawl further enhances the drama of the drapery. Film-star glamour was a constant throughout Roman designer Valentino’s long career, as was the use of his signature color—a bright shade of red that he felt symbolized the power of femininity.
