Summer 1983

Woman's Evening Dress and Cape

Here a crisp yet airy silk fabric known as gazar is exquisitely pleated and draped to form a slim wrap-around skirt, high-waisted cummerbund, and one-shouldered bodice topped by a substantial bow. An asymmetrical, cocoonlike cape, which leaves the bow exposed, completes this haute couture design by Marc Bohan, then in his twenty-fifth year as the designer for Dior. The ensemble illustrates Bohan’s refined proportions, masterful way with fabric, and aesthetic, all greatly valued by discriminating clients.
