Bicentennial Bag
Mario RivoliAmerican, 1943 - 2021
For the centerpiece of this oversized bag, the artist embellished an Indian mirror cloth embroidery with other found objects, including a large red patch embroidered with the Coca-Cola logo. The global reach of the brand inspired Rivoli to adopt it as a tongue-in-cheek symbol of world unity, a sentiment echoed earlier in the brand’s 1971 advetising jingle, "I’d Like to Buy the World a Coke."
