Description of Constantin Brancusi's "Sculpture for the Blind" (c. 1920)

In collaboration with the Fabric Workshop in Philadelphia, Lenka Clayton facilitated a body of work based on the modernist sculptor Constantin Brancusi’s Sculpture for the Blind, also in the museum’s collection (1950-134-20). Struck by the object’s display inside a vitrine and thus accessible to visitors only via the sense of sight, Clayton sought ways for people who are visually impaired to engage with the work. This print is a translation into braille of Clayton’s detailed description of the sculpture. She provided this text to encourage people who are blind to create their own sculptures based on her description. Their works were exhibited at the Fabric Workshop in 2017 alongside the braille description seen here.
