Qajar Amulet with Woman’s Portrait

Artist/maker unknown

Persian painters had practiced the art of enameling since the Safavid period (1501–1722), initially imitating European prototypes, but painters in the late Persian Qajar court (1781–1925) brought the art to a new level. They excelled at gold enameling with vivid colors and exquisite floral and figural designs.
