Tile Panel: Triple Tulips in Bracketed Frames
Artist/maker unknownThe rise of the Dutch republic as a leading maritime and trading empire in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries brought great prosperity and many foreign products into Holland. The influence of Chinese porcelain can be seen here in the use of blue monochrome, and in the composition of the frame with its mock-fretwork corners that consist of a web of densely packed lines.
The triple tulip design seen here was one of the most popular tile motifs; it was produced for over two hundred years, from 1625 to 1850.
