Overlooking the Delaware
Edward Willis RedfieldAmerican, 1869 - 1965
After graduating from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Edward Redfield traveled in Europe with his classmate Robert Henri. Both artists were inspired to apply the principles of French Impressionism to modern American subjects, although Henri returned to paint New York City and Redfield took up rural subjects in Pennsylvania. Working from nature to create atmospheric landscape scenes, Redfield painted in even the most severe weather.
