Bareback Riders
Alexander CalderAmerican, 1898 - 1976
While Calder was in Paris between 1926 and 1932, he created an entire miniature circus composed of figures and animals made of wood and wire. These in turn inspired him to make a series of drawings that reflected the way he used wire in his sculptures. The drawing is also a virtuoso performance of the art of penmanship.
