Mary Stevenson CassattAmerican, 1844 - 1926
The comparison of Cassatt's works with Renaissance depictions of the Madonna and child is familiar and endearing. Here the format and color scheme seem to have been inspired by the brightly glazed ceramic relief sculptures made by the Della Robbia family of Florence.
