Goya’s fascination with the remarkable acrobatics and techniques of contemporary matadors that he observed firsthand is reflected in the daring feats illustrated in his prints. Francisco Antonio Ebassún Martínez (1708–1772), also known as Martincho, appears four times, more than any other matador in the series. Here Martincho prepares to leap over the back of a bull with his legs shackled in irons.
