Artist/maker unknownAmong the Egyptian Mamluk rugs that survive, the design of this rug is quite unusual. Its peculiarity lies in the central group of nine rondels, reminiscent of mandala arrangements in East Asian art, and in the prominent yellow-white lotus blossoms, also of Asian origin, in the border.
