“Art” and Life

Rockwell Kent

American, 1882 - 1971

Kent’s early talent as a political satirist is evident in this cartoon published by the socialist daily newspaper The New York Evening Call. The drawing depicts a foppish art student painting an academic allegory of labor outdoors, ignoring the factory smokestacks and curious young factory worker behind him.
