Carl Zigrosser, Kent’s longtime friend and the founding curator of the Museum’s department of prints and drawings, was not only influential as a supporter and promoter of Kent’s efforts as a graphic artist, but also occasionally served as the inspiration for Kent’s designs. In his autobiography, Zigrosser claimed that this print was based on a photograph of him taken on Monhegan Island, Maine.
