Chasuble

Image 1 of 21 / 2

This chasuble is similar in design to one that Wilhelm Jakob Seberth (1715–1765) of Vienna embroidered between 1735 and 1753 for Bishop Jan Josef Vratislav von Mitrovic of Hradec Kralové, Czech Republic. The vestments (ceremonial garments worn by church officials) embroidered by Seberth characterized by naturalistically rendered flowers amidst scrolling ribbons and bows—are regarded as masterworks of German Baroque ecclesiastical needlework.
