Howard Norton Cook

American, 1901 - 1980

Howard Cook held a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1934–35, enabling him to tour the Deep South to study the characters and activities of the working poor in out-of-the-way areas of the United States. He lived among and drew farmers, miners, steelworkers, craftsmen, and cowboys. This watercolor is dated to the time of his stay in southern Texas.
